The Nitro Church of Christ

Baby Basket Ministry

Our baby basket program is run by Helen Arthur with the help of her husband, Gary, and Jan Diehl. Several of the area hospitals depend on this program to help new parents clothe their babies.

This program began 15 years ago. Our ministry was huge in 2007. Take a moment to look over our 2007 report.

2007 Baby Basket Ministry Report

The following numbers represent more than just baby baskets. They represent babies whose lives were touched by God’s servants at Nitro.

CAMC Women’s & Children’s Hospital received 391 large baskets and 491 mini-baskets. The Birthing Center in Putnam County (WomenCare) also received 46 baskets and 13 individual baskets were given out to families that were referred to us. Each baby basket is loaded with items to help babies get a good start in life.

In 2007 we gave away 900 big blankets, 2,291 receiving blankets, 3,191 sleepers, 900 gowns, 3,191 onesies, 3,350 bibs, 1,800 pairs of socks and 5,050 outfits.

A special thank you goes out to Gary & Helen Arthur and Jan Diehl for their many hours of service in this ministry. We also want to thank the army of workers who wash and fold baby clothes, shop the yard and store sales and donate money. We would also like to recognize the ladies at the Belle Church of Christ for their more than generous donations of new clothes during the year and 84 Lumber Company who has contributed financially the last two years. This ministry could not continue to thrive without the help of everyone involved. The baby basket ministry is in need of finanical contributions to continue. You can contact the church office for information on donating to this great ministry. Thank you!

Keep it up!

Children's Ministry

Children are a precious gift from God, and at Nitro we place great value and importance on our ministry to children. From pre-school to sixth grade, you'll find a wide variety of classes and activities especially geared for your child. Each event is age appropriate and designed to help your child learn biblical truths and develop good relationships with their God, their families, and their friends.

Clothing Ministry

Our clothing ministry is led by Becky Bailey and her army of volunteers. We have Clothing Giveaway Days on a regular basis. Our clothing is also available on an as needed basis when there is a fire, flood or other disaster. We have clothing for children and adults. Watch our website for our Clothing Giveaway dates.

Events

Food Pantry

Our food pantry is well stocked with items for the many families in the area that are in need of assistance. Jan Diehl oversees the food pantry. Anyone needing assistance can call our office to set up a time to pick up food. Our members bring "Pantry Items of the Week" to keep our pantry well stocked.

Singing and Devotion at Broadmore and Angel Avenue Assisted Living Homes

A group of our members go to Broadmore and Angel Avenue Assisted Living Homes on the 4th Friday of every month (except November and December) for singing and a devotion. We sometimes stay and eat a meal with them. We are always blessed by the time spent at both of these homes. Feel free to join us anytime. The van leaves the parking lot at 9:30am.

World Bible School

World Bible School is an organization that offers free Bible Correspondence Lessons to millions of people around the world. Each student is assigned a study helper who grades the lessons, sends out the new lessons, and encourages the student. The lessons are "Introductory," "Knowing Jesus," "God Has Spoken," "This is Good News," "Born of the Water and Spirit,"and "Family of God." Students who comlete the course are referred to a local congregation of the Church of Christ for follow-up. The current WBS program at the Nitro Church of Christ was started by Dean Miller in 1997. Currently, a group of volunteers led by Becky Bailey meets on Tuesday mornings whenever there are lessons to process. All of our students are from Nigeria, mostly from Kano State, which is in northern Nigeria, a predominately Muslim region. We have around 300 active students. If you wish to help us in this work, please join us at our next meeting. The work isn't difficult and is very satisfying. Currently our church is providing monthly financial support to two wonderful students who are now going to school to become preachers. To paraphrase 1 Cor. 3:6 "We plant the seed, the local churches water it, but God makes it grow." Praise God.

Youth Ministry

The Nitro Youth Ministry serves teenagers in grades 7th through 12th and their families. It is a dynamic ministry, which helps students help teenagers follow in the steps of Jesus, outreach to their friends, connect with other Christians, uplift God with their lives, and serve those in need. Through meetings and events, this ministry offers students a place to belong and a place where they can discover and fulfill God's plan for their lives. We are blessed to have Mark Derreberry as our Youth Minister. Mark and his wife Angie make a great team in this effort. Come join us!!
